　The Kongouhukuji temple is located in Ashizuri Cape of Shimizu city which went about
100km southwest from Iwamotoji temple. Between the amulet-issuing offices of the
Shikoku holy place, it is the longest distance. If you progress the national highway
No.56 line, you will arrive in Nakamura city. After that you go alng the sea crossing
Shimanto River, you will arrive in Ashizuri Cape. The precincts of the temple are large,
and the whole cape has become "Ashizuri Uwa Kai National Park."
　Kobo Daishi opened this temple as the "Hudaraku east gate" in response to Emperor
Saga's request for Kounin 13 years (822). It was because this place is the closest to
India in which the Kannon lives. The men of those days believed that the Kannon lived
in the "Hudaraku mountain" in the south of India.
　Genji family believes it in thickly. So they built Tahoto and repaired the temple at the
Kamakura period.The chief priest might be dispatched from Ninnaji temple in Kyoto at
the Muromachi period. From the Age of Civil Wars to the Edo period, many people take
out boats aiming at India in which the Kannon lives. For this reason, it is told that there
are many people who lost their life. People received Tosa lord Mr. Yamauchi's
protection in the Edo period.
　The peninsular circumference of a lighthouse is a wonderful scenic spot.
