 Since Daikoji Temple stands in the extensive country from the steep Unpenji mountain
with an altitude of about 1000m, this temple softens person's heart to visit.
 It is said that Kobo Daishi opened this temple by Emperor Saga's wish in 822.
 Daishi carved Yakushi Nyorai, deified as the principal image, and built the temple.
 Then,the temple prospered as the practice exercise hall of the Shingon sect and the
Tendai sect of Buddhism. However, it has been burned in a subsequent war.The present
Main Temple is rebuilt around 1600. On the both sides of the stone steps gone up to
the Main Temple, there are big trees such as Kaya tree and camphor tree that Kobo
Daishi planted. There are many cultural properties of prefecture specification in this
temple. Yakushi Nyorai of the production of marquetry of the Hinoki of the Heian
period, the Daishi sedentary statue, the Deva king image called Unkei made, and the”
Daikoji"mount of a tree. Mr. Fujiwara has dedicated the amount of a tree in 1267.
 There is a tradition that Kichisaburo (a person who appears in the story of "Yaoya
Ohichi") contributed the temple gate in the middle of the pilgrimage.
