Zentsuji Temple is located from the Kozan temple in the place of about 2km south. This is the ground
where Kobo Daishi was born, and is the three major holy places both Koyasan and To-ji.
The Daishi who went back from Tang in 806 thought that he wanted to build a temple as a Saeki family's
temple. Daishi binds the ground of the holy place brought back from Tang to his father's land, and began to
build a temple for Shoryuji of Tang as a model. Six years after, temple was completed and Daishi engraved
Yakushi Nyorai, installed the temple in the main hall of a Buddhist temple, and made it the principal
image.Then, although the Main Temple was burned down by war, it was rebuilt in 1685.
Daishi's father was called Yoshimichi Saeki. The Saeki family is the powerful clan of this district, and was
nominated as the feudal lord of Sanuki. From this father's name, it is said that the name of Zentsuji was
named. The precincts of the temple are large and are divided into Toin and Saiin. There are a big Camphor
tree exceeding 1000 years and many buildings, such as the main hall of a Buddhist temple and five-storied
pagoda in Toin. Furthermore, three gates are located. In the east there is a red gate, in the west is an
inner gate and in the south is the South Gate. Daishi's Miedo is located in Saiin and the Daishi was born
here. It is said that this building was built on marks with his mother's house.
The approach which goes to Saiin from Toin, many stalls such as a souvenir shop, are located in a ine.
