　The Nagaoji Temple stands in the streets of about 7km south from the Shidoji Temple.
This neighborhood is the extensive country. The Gyuki-bosatu visited in this ground and
built a small temple in 739. It is the beginning of this temple. By the willow tree, he
sculptured into the Goddess of Mercy image, and deified as the principal image.Then,
Kobo Daishi who goes to Tang visited this temple, and did accomplishment prayer.
　When Kobo Daishi returned from Tang, he visited this temple, he paid the visit for
thanksgiving, built the tower erected for the repose of his soul, and revived the temple.
　The Edo period comes and it is said that the temple rebuilt by Matudaira Yorishige and
changed into the Tendai sect of Buddhism from the Shingon sect in 1615.
　Shizuka Gozen's grave is located in this temple. After parting from Yositune
Minamotono in Yoshino, Shizuka Gozen came to this temple from Sanuki with her mother
who is nun. It was the thing of the next year that Yositune was attacked and killed by
Yasuhira Fujiwara of Oshu. In this temple, there is an event of boast about its strength in
the New Year. It is the event to say one bag of 60 kg rice cakes are put and carried to
the stand of the same weight.
